I liked most other stuff he did, but that's a quality v creepy movie imo.

He didn't like to be out of work so ended up doing quite a lot of mediocre stuff...but at his best he was superb. I still rate " Don't Look Now" as one of the scariest movies I ever saw.

He was one of the good guys. IOTBS, Klute, Kelly's Heroes, M.A.S.H, Ordinary People, Don't Look Now, JFK... He's been in some cracking films and always elevated them without making it all about himself.

Judging by the audience in that recent Munk debate, Canada desperately needs more like him. RIP.

I don't really watch films much now and haven't done for two or three decades.

I looked up 'Don't Look Now'. Yeh, I remember it. Psychological 'thrillers' - when done well - like this are indeed the most disturbing because one can imagine oneself falling into the same abyss.

At the start of the original version, a young man ran into their car shouting that they're taking us over. In the remake, it's an old man - the same actor.

The original 1956 Invasion of the Body Snatchers still the best one

The same actor was Kevin McCarthy who in the original jumps on the back of a truck and to his horror sees it full of the alien "pods" which are taking over humans. Directed by Don Siegel from the novel by Jack Finney.

That was to be the original ending but the authorities got the wind up because it would have caused moral panic, so the film maker had to top and tail the film with a couple of bromide scenes where McCarthy is telling his story to a sceptical police chief, and then we flashback to how it all began. Then they tacked on a scene at the end where info comes in that persuades the police McCarthy is telling the truth. So ruining what would have been a stupendous finale. I bet Don Siegel was grinding his gnashers to bloody stumps.

I've read the synopses for the 1956 and 1978 versions and clearly my memory is playing me false.
