Your theory is attractive, however why can't one mention there is a possibility that this was a Ukrainian plot, playing up to (stroking of the ego) of a young American (a distant possibility - and not one's Occam's razor : ))?

Only from the cui bono aspect i.e. motivation. For example Medvedchuk, pro-RF Ukrainian politician who was jailed by Ukr junta, now living in Moscow, made a statement. Mentioned in Sleboda's piece around 25:00:

It's not related to the shooting but we're going to tie it to that anyway, and we're not going to try and work out why all this raised security meant they didn't secure the buildings immediately surrounding the area.

I'm going to bet this wasn't one of her targets.

It must be the iranians who planted the tree which obstructed the secret service sharpshooters view. My guess is that dendrochronological analysis will show that this plot dates back to early 80s. Remarkable.
