The prime minister endorsed comments by Bridget Phillipson, the education secretary, who said that removing the cap was among measures the government would look at as part of a review into child poverty.

Genuine review or trying to kick the issue into the long grass? Meanwhile kids stay in poverty.

Was there a review before committing to increase defence spending and sending more dosh to the Ukrainian sink-hole?

Indeed John - reasonable question, where was the review on the defence expenditure and Ukrainian support? If Starmer / Labour were serious about a "review" on child poverty (do you need a review as don't all the statistics readily available indicate the problem) then suspending MPs for a bit of finessing or pre-empting this decision is just vindictive. but of course, he knows that with his huge majority that is actually going to be a serious problem for him maintaining "discipline" in disputes in his own party. This is pour discouragent les autres or don't you dare - we can expect to see many more similar votes designed to embarrass Labour.

Hard to work out why this measure ever existed where "...The idea was to incentivise a kind of procreational discipline..." :ie. to discourage the UK poor from having children, whilst at the same time importing several million poor immigrants.

Why you would want to retain it is even more a mystery...but of course Labour's "... not the party to represent those who are out of work.”according to themselves.

-They're yet another party of the UK Gammonocracy and dont want to send the wrong signals out.
