The political elite are flailing and the country is failing. The actual strategic importance of Ukraine to the UK is minimal, and to the US not even that. But on the basis of our western hubris and an infantile Russophobia, we've spent about a trillion dollars on pursuing a war which Obama himself said - "Russia has escalatory dominance". Some which money might have gone to decaying northern towns and their neglected citizens and prevented the violence that we are now trying to bottle up in over-pressured prisons.
(The trillion dollars comes about because I include not just the direct costs but also the consequential cost of our own reactions to Russia's SMO, particularly energy prices, sanctions, inflation etc. Indeed a trillion dollars might well be a serious underestimate.)
