Dagenham fire: Residents describe escape after homes evacuated from tower block engulfed by flames

For some reason, I thought this "non compliant cladding" issue was being actively dealt with after the awful Grenfell House tragedy and those living in high risk bulidings using it had been rehoused or at least the dangerous cladding removed from their buildings...I mean, Grenfell was 7 years ago ffs, that's a fair chunk of time to get stuff done.
Silly me!
To be honest, it is not a story I have paid a lot of attention to but I am guessing no one has been held accountable for and prosecuted over Grenfell?

One of the main reasons that nothing is happening imo is that they haven't identified the culprit

. In essence, again imo, it is the interpretation of the Building Regulations. Some councils have taken it seriously and decided to act. Many didn't. I'd like to think it is something to do with the ole Thatcher selling off the council housing stock in the 80s and thus we have the Gordian knot of who is responsible for the costs for the remedy of this effup. Glaringly corrupt by the government in shrugging off the responsibility. Neat.

Lots of thoughts and prayers, hand wringing and carefully crafted speeches and press releases and then doing the sum total of fuck all.

...no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.

The Grenfell Public Inquiry's final report will be published at 11am on Wednesday 4 September 2024.
