As he often did in videos documenting life's mundane absurdities in the enclave, Halimy on Monday walked to his local internet cafe — rather, a tent with Wi-Fi where displaced Palestinians can connect to the outside world — to meet his friend and collaborator Talal Murad.
They snapped a selfie — “Finally Reunited" Halimy captioned it on Instagram — and started catching up.
Then came a flash of light, 18-year-old Murad said, an explosion of white heat and sprayed earth. Murad felt pain in his neck. Halimy was bleeding from his head. A car on the coastal road in front of them was engulfed in flames, the apparent target of an Israeli airstrike. It took 10 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. Some hours later doctors pronounced Halimy dead.
“He represented a message,” Murad said on Friday, still recovering from his shrapnel wounds and reeling from the Israeli airstrike that killed his friend. “He represented hope and strength.”
The Israeli military didn't respond to a request for comment on the strike...

A blogger who attracted a following on Instagram and TikTok by documenting daily life in Gaza has been killed in a strike.
Mohammad 'Medo' Halimy, 20, was hit by shrapnel from a nearby blast caused by an Israeli missile in Khan Younis on Monday, according to two youth organisations he had previously worked with.
The Tamer Institute for Community Education told the BBC that Halimy was in an area near the beach where displaced people have sheltered when he was fatally struck.
The IDF told the BBC it could not confirm a strike took place in Khan Younis on Monday, but said it was continuing to "counter threats while persisting to mitigate harm to civilians" in Gaza.
"killed in a strike" makes it sound like it got a bit tasty on the picket line. And then the murdering army's ridiculous propaganda line with no caveats. Who the hell else would it be? Albania?

They are trying to keep an extra step between the missile and his death by claiming a "nearby blast caused by an Israeli missile" killed him, so they can later claim they hit an arms cache, etc.
We're still bombing but we make sure we mitigate harm to civilians by claiming anyone we kill was a fighter.

A Russian bomb attack on Ukraine’s north-eastern city of Kharkiv hit a residential building and a playground, killing seven people and injuring at least 77 more, local authorities said. Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said a 14-year-old girl was among the dead. The death toll from the attack climbed to seven when a woman’s body was recovered from the rubble.
About 20 of the injured were in severe condition, said the regional governor, Oleh Syniehubov. Ukrainian authorities said the attack involved five aerial guided “glide bombs” launched from planes in Russia’s Belgorod region. Zelenskiy has renewed a call on western allies to allow Ukraine to use long-range western weapons to attack Russian military airbases. “A strike … would not have happened if our defence forces had the ability to destroy Russian military aircraft where they are based,” Zelenskiy said. “There is no rational reason to restrict Ukraine’s defences.”
Not only complete certainty about what happened and who did it, but technical details on the munitions and definitive casualty/injury figures and details on the status of the injured.
When it's the apartheid state it's x dead, y injured, they say there was no bomb.
Also, no propaganda caveats from Russia saying how they are trying to reduce civilian deaths or how the building had been requisitioned by troops (something the Ukr army has done many times as it goes).
