Thanks for posting this important discussion. Gideon Levy is introduced as one of the most important Jewish / Israeli dissenters in that country.
He says at the start, the two state solution is dead. There is only one solution, that's a one state solution. That's what I and some others have been saying for some years. The two state solution , in my opinion, would only come about if a US backed international force drove out the 700,000 Israeli settlers in the Palestinian lands. Not that likely. methinks.
Levy goes on to tell us of the total euphoria presently in Israel, the walkie-talkies, the successful assassination, it will presage a doom and gloom and terror asking themselves "will we survive", what will happen to us now.
Anyway, just listen to the interview.
But there is no solution as long as Israel is supported by the US and the West however much that Israel's government misbehaviours or acts criminally.
Anyone who think that Kamala Harris's claims to feel the suffering of those in Gaza and calling for a ceasefire is a good sign for her possible presidency will rapidly be disabused by this statement in regard to the assassination of Nasrallah:
US Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday called the slain Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah “a terrorist with American blood on his hands.” The Democrat, who is running for president in the November US elections, said she will “always support Israel’s right to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.”
The article commences: Joe Biden feels he has been “humiliated” by Benjamin Netanyahu after Israel defied his attempts to broker peace in the Middle East.
The US president told allies that he believed the Israeli leader had engaged in a back-and-forth over a ceasefire despite having no intention to stop the strikes against Hezbollah, Politico reported.
It would seem likely that Harris will be equally likely to be humiliated, as long as the Israeli lobby provides the financial backing to the majority of Congress, the Senate and the entire political class.
Re: The Looming Catastrophe in the ME. C. Hedges w G. Levy and Biden feels humiliated....
(1) As you describe (measured & restrained), because Hzbollah don’t have to do very much to frighten Israeli farmers into fleeing south, which then hits the economy with Moody’s downgrades etc.
On the other hand ..
(2) Hzbollah’s weapons seem to be of a purely offensive nature (the absence of, for example, air defense systems seems curious to me, I don’t have a full understanding of why, after so many decades of bombardment), while Israel’s are of both offensive and defensive nature.
Maybe after 35 years, Hzbollah is better off without Nasrallah? It seems to me they suffered from a little more hubris than hard-headed military doctrine? Leastways, Israel seems to have had minute-by-minute intelligence on Nasrallah’s location without presumably any wireless emissions, which seems rather compellingly “inside-job-ish” to me.
