Is this the same Scahill whose determination to reinforce Western narratives justifying the dirty war on Syria led him to join Owen Jones in the fight to prevent Sister Agnes Mariam appearing at a 2013 London anti-war event? The end result of which pressure was that she withdrew -- meaning the event took place without a single participant who actually fucking lived in Syria.

Scahill is just the usual faux-dissisent media scum wannabe. To be avoided.

Like a lot of young American women she talks back in her throat with a guttural grating growl that is very unpleasant on the ear. She needs elocution lessons to make her voice humanly tolerable. At the moment a broadcasting disaster.

I think that's what they call "Vocal Fry" and I can't bloody stand it either.
There have been plenty of tv programmes and films I have wanted to watch but as soon as I hear any of the actresses croaking like that I can't do it.

That episode was not good and should always be taken into account, but to use that one incident to claim Scahill "supports the really big Empire narratives" is absurd and is in direct contradiction to his body of work, particularly on the GWOT, Iraq, Syria, etc.

Another absurd overreaction to one line in a long discussion which was the initial point; his large, decades long body of work makes it a nonsense to say he supports the really big Empire narratives.

Even in the quote above he describes U.S. imperialism accurately so presumably you disagree with his idea that Russia acts in its own interests rather than being a global altruistic state. Calling it "imperial" is debatable which they then go on to do.

Painting him as a "boutique dissident pointing the finger at those desperatly resisting it [imperialism]" is just laughably wrong and his work proves it.

We'll have to agree to differ but here's Pilger mentioning Scahill; he must have been fooled too...
