"An expert who has spoken to BBC Verify has cast doubt on Ukraine's claim that Russia has carried out a strike on the central city of Dnipro with an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, suggested that the US would have detected the launch of an ICBM by the Russian military".
They didn,t so it couldn,t have been an ICBM.

I saw this earlier and thought it was another case of the Uki's lying again but the lack of detection idea is pretty scary.
At first I thought it could have been a 3d chess move from Russia, firing an ICBM with a regular payload but then it occured to me that trackers wouldn't have been able to tell the difference and just the fact that we haven't all got massive sun tans at the moment suggests it's the nazis telling porkies again.
The Russians have now said it was an experimental ballistic missle which makes a lot more sense and is a lot less scary....no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
At least some mil-int types have paid attention to the fact that the missile was of a MIRV (Mulitple Independent Re-entry Vehicle) variety, which is normally strongly associated with nuclear weapons.
Russia is clearly giving them a message. It seems it's been picked up. Hopefully they take heed.
“Whether it was an ICBM or an IRBM, the range isn’t the important factor,” Fabian Hoffmann, a doctoral research fellow at Oslo University who specialises in missile technology and nuclear strategy, told Associated Press. “The fact that it carried a MIRVed [multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle] payload is much more significant for signalling purposes and is the reason Russia opted for it. This payload is exclusively associated with nuclear-capable missiles.”
While Putin has previously stated that western decisions to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons would lead Moscow to treat those nations as parties to the conflict, his warning on Thursday marked his most explicit threat yet about striking western countries.
