And Scott Ritter is straight in there saying he sees nothing in that theory but then that means the Iranian and Russian intelligence services were caught cold by a very (apparently) overt preparation of a large armed force in an area they would usually have heavy intel on. I don't see why Russia would make such a deal (if Ukraine is their side of the bargain) given that they are apparently winning there without too much trouble.

The speed and ease of the conquest does suggest something having been arranged so I'm leaning more to some soft of deal being made but it will have to be one that smoothes out all these apparent contradictions. ...no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.

Many reports are now circulating that Assad was warned by both Russians and Iranians about what was brewing in Idlib many moons ago. Bashar didn't buy it since he fantasised that Gulf States will look after him (rather than Russians/Iranians/Chinese) .. silly boy (eyes roll).
Still, it's good that he attended academic award ceremony for his son in Moscow when he moved his family there a fortnight ago and returning to Syria .. and then soon to leave Damascus thereafter. I suppose he isn't *that* silly after all. I like the way Russkies did a decoy responder signal when he landed in Hmeimim etc. All thought the plane has crashed : )
