The actual point about Owen Jones here is that the worthless, careerist shit has sucked BBC dick so relentlessly, and in so many tragically significant contexts, that now he wants to make a meaningful criticism of the BBC, he's *too strongly associated* with the atrocious political and editorial decisions it has been making...

Basically, it elicits the same reaction as 'Himmler finally turns against Nazis': "Really? Who gives a shit what Himmler says?"

How about when somebody does wrong we criticise what they say and do but when they perform well we praise what they do, whilst not forgetting or forgiving the poor earlier behaviour?

And it's extremely embarassing for the BBC that somebody like him would lay into them like that. That's good enough for me.

I know people who think the BBC are the bee's knees and won't hear a word against them. They've also got huge respect for Owen Jones. I can't wait to hear what they think of this article.

Ask yourself what would the Palestinians think of this article. Or even Jonathan Cook.

You don't have to praise Jones. Praise the article. They are separate things. It's like the genius of Wagner alongside his anti semitism. Or the genius of the novelist Knut Hamsun alongside his devotion to Hitler. Take the good and leave the bad.

There was a sculptor once who did what were widely acknowledged as wonderful sculptures of children. But after his death it was discovered that he was a paedophile and abused his child models. That turned a lot of people off the sculptures. But why would the sculptures themselves, inanimate objects, suddenly change? Can one still like the sculptures while holding the sculptor in high contempt?

I don't know. I'm just asking. I'd probably feel like I was colluding somehow. But I'd rather I didn't.

I don't know whether you are referring to Eric Gill or not, whose sculptures adorn BBC Broadcasting House in London, but who also sexually abused his daughters and his dog, apparently.

Of course, I share the same reservations about Jones like everybody else. But, he has done good work on Gaza, has stuck his neck out and burnt his boats with the Zionist lobby.

We are all full of contradictions. It's unrealistic to expect people to be pure as the driven snow. Ane hypercritical when they are not.

Absolutely what the post above (johnlilburne) said.

The piece in question is a fairly meticulous, detailed critique of the subject and, for the time being at least, can easily serve as a prime reference on the topic; a topic that is not being reported on widely elsewhere.

You are right, on Gaza he has been surprisingly adamant, forceful and diligent. Personally I thought .. 'this little sh!t has changed his spots', so to speak. I can forgive but I can also be watchful. It's not that difficult. To do anything else is ideological rigidity accompanied by the usual consequences. Motives .. shmotives.

...I think Jones has been pretty damn good with his Gaza stuff on Youtube but I always got my long spoon out with it comes to him after his awful Corbyn antisemitism bollox.
I might take a couple of inches off the spoon if he were to admit he was wrong about that and precisely why he was wrong and if he called out The Guardian for its propaganda role too...that would be worth a listen.
Until then, the spoon remains at the appropriate length.
