Seven children from one family among dozens killed by Israeli attacks on Gaza
Family of 10 were killed in their home in Jabalia in northern Gaza, which has been under Israeli siege for months
Israeli airstrikes killed at least 25 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Friday, medics said, including seven children from the same family, as Israel continues to bombard the already devastated territory.
At least eight people were killed in a strike on apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Pictures sent by news wires showed children among the dead and injured taken to al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital. Meanwhile a family of 10, including the seven siblings, were killed in the northern Gaza town of Jabalia.
This reported in the same edition when Freedland is blarting on about "deliberate optimism":
He actually spends most time explaining how terrible Assad was and Gaza gets two mentions I think.
Then there's this:
As part of that effort towards optimism, we can draw strength from those who dare to swim against even the bleakest tides. I think of the staff of Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, for instance, who constantly, and in the face of intense opposition, including a planned boycott by the country’s far-right government, urge their fellow citizens to face the reality of what their leaders and their army are doing in Gaza. That kind of work wins few friends. And yet, if Israelis and Palestinians are ever to find a way out of the current darkness, that is the courage that will be required. That such courage already exists, here and now, is grounds for hope.
Seems like a little preemptive "Netanyhu did it all, not us" hypocrisy to me.
Then this detached from reality closer:
I’m not sure any of that answers Tammy’s question. How do we live in this terrible world? Perhaps by accepting that it’s the only one we have and that it’s not always so terrible – that sometimes, even quite often, it can be rather beautiful....no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
