In 1984 Orwell scratched the surface of totalitarian propaganda. Seems like we've gone way beyond that. Don't know if it ever was? Has the internet facilitated total control at an unprecedented level or exposed it?

I think that for the moment the outdated media are too useful to the boss class to discard, since their minority interests are those of the boss class but as soon as the free media becomes overwhelming, we will lose what vestiges of its freedom remains.
