"If a European force was to be deployed to Ukraine it might well be subject to low-level provocative attacks, designed to test their willingness to remain deployed in the country..."
I find the "Expainer" premise difficult: its more "Confuser".
Take the above: A "European Force" coudn't be deployed without Russian agreement in the first place. Without that there won't be "low-level provocative attacks" because they would obviously be targeted for annihilation as enemy combatants. So how are they going to even get deployed?
There's this weird presumption the they will just go in because they want to and that Russia will, just, well, let them.
-Why on earth do they think that they can just walk into Ukraine with impunity? I think it not just the BBC in La-la land here: this seems to reflect where the Euro-Brit leadership Borg mindset is at...and its simply not rational.
indeed, Ken, you have suggested one obvious problem, but the whole matter is predicated on narrative, otherwise called a fairy-tale, and not reality. This leadership is not far off insane. Trumpism is bringing a dose of reality in this particular matter for the moment, but it's only as long as the President thinks it in his interests, and he has yet to face Putin, he's a loose cannon otherwise.
Ah, the Guardian struggling with incompatible ideologies again?
Have our elites not yet grasped that almost all military actions are completely incompatible with what they profess to believe about climate change and the importance they've placed on achieving Net Zero? In an increasingly deindustrialised Europe, what do they think will produce all the weapons of war...sorry...peace-keeping that armed forces need? Will the MpD's new line be "hey, we'd hoped to get protective clothing to you guys but the wind didn't blow for a couple of weeks so we were like stymied. Sorry about your casualties".
Russia hasn't got an energy crisis - will Europe have to ask Putin to turn the gas taps back on so we can make weapons to deploy against, well, Russia? And how do our elites think soldiers get from A to B? Where will the fuel come from? What's it going to cost?
And, of course, all the 'provocations' will come from the Ukrainian side - false flags a go-go - as they WILL attempt to drag these 'peace-keeping' forces into perpetual war with Russia.
My God, just when you think our elites have hit peak stupidity, they show there's still further to go.
