... talk about the threat of fascism - they would be its chief enablers in the right set of circumstances. I bet most of them were ecstatic about Ardern's two-tier society, punishing the unvaxxed during covid as a 'tool for confidence' so that the vaccinated will feel like they're 'in a safe environment' - https://members5.boardhost.com/xxxxx/msg/archive/1674173290.html Doesn't take much to turn people like this into a baying mob silencing, marginalising & abusing those who have been declared as the 'unpeople' of the day. I guess the only thing I would say about Jacinda Ardern's legacy is the statistics don't lie – thousands are alive due to her decisions during the pandemic. Forget about delivery this or the spiteful little men of the right that or the crazy cookers. Worrying about that would be like going to Christopher Wren's masterpiece of St Pauls Cathedral and keeping your eyes downcast upon the floor, complaining about the chewing gum or the state of the tiles. Instead, raise your eyes and go for a walk down a busy street. Look at all the elderly, or immune compromised, or those otherwise vulnerable to a novel virus and imagine those of them who might not be here but for the covid response. And recall Wren's epitaph on his tomb in St Pauls:

“Si monumentum requiris circumspice" – If you seek her monument, look around.'

Barely a hint of critical appraisal throughout until you get to this from RedLogiX:

'The COVID response was going well enough right up to the point where her govt introduced the Vaccine Passports and forcing people out of their jobs [...] Once Omicron came along it was obvious vaccines were barely useful in preventing transmission, which was the only possible justification for making them mandatory [...] On these forums we tend to focus on the noisy passionate extremists, such as the Parliament protests – but what we tend not to see are the largely unspoken views of middle NZ who quietly shifted against what they saw as unreasonable govt over-reach in both instances.'

Surprised at how well received it was, tbh. Wasn't the NZ vaccination rate already above 90% when they introduced the mandates? Anyway, bit of a tangent I guess. Enjoy your break, assuming you're planning on returning?

... reports one of the Unpeople, a health worker who had an exemption from the vax for suffering a stroke after getting the first one. Others said they had 'lost their sense of control, and it eroded their trust in the health system and government', one more concluding that:

'Someone who’s been vaccinated badly, the trauma of that – it’s not just them, it’s their entire social circle, it’s their entire whānau. You’re seeding distrust in the health system, not just for COVID vaccinations, but the whole system, everything to do with medicine and the whole immunisation programme […] if there’s a policy that’s as big as a mandate for a whole population or health professionals, you really need to think about what are the unintended consequences.'

Seems the uptake rate was between 80-90% for health workers, prison staff and teachers at the time the mandates were announced in Oct '21. End of Oct the uptake was 75% for all eligible: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_vaccination_in_New_Zealand#October_2021

I expect that 'look of disgust' will now be reserved for the 'fascists' and 'right wing extremists' who support peace & a negotiated resolution to the Ukraine war, instead of continuing to pump arms and cause still more bloodletting because Bad Putin Will Invade Us Next.
