What an interesting life. In the belly of the beast, so to speak. I must read some of his books .. any pointers?

He did a series, The Age of Revolution: Europe 1789–1848, The Age of Capital: 1848–1875, The Age of Empire: 1875–1914 and The Age of Extremes: The Short Twentieth Century, 1914–1991.

I made the first of the ex-Squeeth women hoot with laughter when she saw that I had packed The Age of Revolution: Europe 1789–1848 as a little light reading for our first trip to Ireland. The Invention of Tradition ought to be good but I found it a little pedestrian.
