I think you can guess what he's referring to, and he has the courage to say it out loud and even show it in writing (though not in the tweet itself, I notice):
Roger Waters ✊ @rogerwaters Jul 5 It’s today, July 5th 2025. This is the “I am Spartacus” moment. Please stand up.
*****
He namechecks Monbiot in the vid as the inspiration for his declaration, presumably referring to this:
.
However I note that since the law came into force on July 5th Monbiot himself has not apparently made the declaration he advised others to. The words 'I support Palestine Action' appear on his bluesky account - https://bsky.app/profile/georgemonbiot.bsky.social , but only quoting other people who have got into trouble for saying it. He did write the following:
'I support Palestine Action. I hate all forms of violence. I wish no harm on anyone. I just want a kinder, fairer, greener world. Apparently this makes me a terrorist. But I am the opposite of a terrorist.' - https://bsky.app/profile/georgemonbiot.bsky.social/post/3lsyt6xq7kc2u
But that was on July 2nd, before the law passed. The call for others to make the declaration also did not appear in his July 4th article in the graun:
A cynical person might conclude that Monbiot had been used by the intel agencies to flush out principled supporters of PA and the Palestinians into exposing themselves to legal penalties, carefully doing so on an alt. media platform so that mainstream liberals didn't also get caught in the trap.
Waters has proven his sincerity by making his declaration after July 5th (albeit he is in a more privileged position to take this risk than most people). Monbiot and other sh!tlib journalists haven't, but I still think it's the right thing to do, and an important stand to make at this point in time.
'Campaign Against Antisemitism @antisemitism Jul 5 We have reviewed this post. Palestine Action has been proscribed. Anyone expressing support for it contrary to section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 commits a criminal offence.
We stand ready to privately prosecute offenders in instances where an offence has been made out and the authorities fail to act.'Tell your story; Ask a question; Interpret generously http://storybythethroat.wordpress.com/tell-ask-listen/
FYI: Dan has edited the posts where I've said the same, so I assume board policy is not to take that particular risk in this forum (OK to report on others doing so?). I understand and accept his decision, though it's sad & infuriating to see how lawfare and panopticon psychology can be abused by the state to silence good people in this way. Luckily there are other ways the point can be made. See the 'we do not comply' website for plans & legal advice:
