Why doesn't Russia just finish this war...is this a naive question?

Ok, it's in the msm so it's to be taken with a cartload of salt but I keep seeing headlines like "Zelensky demands this" "Zelensky demands that", "Ukraine launches new offensive", "Ukraine takes back territory", "Zelensky says we will decide our own future", "Zelensky to sanction those who deal with Russia" and on and on and on it goes.
Then, from experts like Ritter, Sloboda and others, that Russia can't be defeated, has x amount more military resources than Ukraine even with weapons sent to it by other countries which very well might be drying up completely soon.
I have also heard many times from these people that Russia is now taking the gloves off...been hearing that for a long time now etc etc etc.
Why doesn't Russia, if it is in the superior position militarily that it seems to be, just go all out and end this war quickly and save everyone a lot of grief?
Is this a daft question...I suppose I am just impatient to see the little two bit chiseler hounded out of office and sent on his merry way and for the Ukrainian nazis to be put back in their box.

The Russian army clearly have a low attrition rate and have had such from early on: maintaining that is a successful strategy.

Changes to that careful strategy would doubtless involve more risk taking and thus more death. Why would they do so when they are bleeding Ukraine dry of soldiers and Europe of armaments for relatively little cost in Russian lives?

Definitely a great question. I would suggest they are boiling the frog. This is how, after all, NATO go to Russia’s borders in the first place: At every step people complain, then accept the new reality. Then there is another step. Its kinda how nuclear superpowers operate. China seems doing the same economically. Their overarching goal is for the US to accept multipolarity.

They also don’t want to conquer The Ukraine, they want to denazify and demilitarize. That is actually a political, not a military goal. It involves Zelensky being perceived as the ultimate evil in the current situation. If Russia just kills him and bombs everything, then Russia is the ultimate bad guy.

Finally, we can’t rule out Zelensky having a secret weapon. He was talking big like this also befure the strategic drone attack on nuclear bombers (‘spiderweb’). And again before Kursk. Quite probably there is something else strategic currently in the pipeline, yet to play out that is buoying him up.

Russia hasn't been at war with the US-Ukronazis since the first 48-72 hours of the SMO, they've been fighting the US and its Nato lackeys ever since. The result has been the steady depletion of Nato equipment and a fair few Nato mercenaries to the point where American Caesar can't contemplate an open war against Russia.

Ever since Putin showed that he was intent on restoring Russian sovereignty, rather than being the west's figurehead, a sober Yeltsin, a war like this has been probable, if not inevitable. Putin et al. have played a weak hand with skill and are winning.

Putin has lots of support in Russia. Going faster would mean higher attrition and a loss of support.

I concur with all 3 answers, some more than others

. I think Ken distilled it in his response. Straight to the current RF strategy scenario, as is plain to see.

The next phase will be interesting i.e. how is RF to manage this smelly fish that has landed in their lap. One can speculate until cows come home

Perhaps Ed's moggies might enjoy the smell, but I'd be careful .. from experience.

...I know the reasoning behind them and I know it's correct and pretty much what I have been hearing from the saner voices...Berletic, Ritter, Sloboda, Macgregor etc.
I suppose I am just frustrated and impatient to see that little crook gone and held accountable for the damage he has done to his country and people.
Not so long ago, so many commentators were saying he tea was oot and wouldn't last much longer...might not even get out of the country alive.
Now he's back, gobbing off as usual, sitting on all his accumulated wealth and in no way looks threatened with any comeback, not even a proper election in sight to get rid of the little dictator.
As I say, impatient to see him getting a damn good Bishop Brennaning and put of office.

No doubt RF is aware of this and is keeping it's powder dry, so to speak. No rush, attritting etc. Bit formulaic, but there you have it.
