It has been one of the big things with campaigners and they ran a trial (so to speak, a test run) in Scotland where instead of juries they had "qualified legal professionals" or a panel of judges but the stated aims included getting more convictions and the qualifications seemed to be "being female" and wanting more rape convictions.

It ran a year I think and then was quietly shelved. I remember seeing some brief news saying so but nothing about why or what (presumably) went wrong.

That seems to refer to only one judge which obviously isn't going to fly.

Reminds me of the Diplock Courts of the Six Counties of Ulster (NI). One Judge. No Jury.

Mainly used against nationalists.

Though, in the case of Internment, no judge or trial was required. Or allowed. (A bit like Israel really). Almost 2,000 nationalists interned, 100 loyalists.

Diplock Courts "are still used in Northern Ireland upon certification by the Director of Public Prosecutions on a case-by-case basis".
