Why didn't we demonise Assange? Is Chomsky guilty of a sex crime? Or indeed any crime.

I'll just pick out a few bits of yer man's article. Regarding Chomsky's criticism of the Me Too movement - I remember many of the people on here ridiculing the MeToo movement. To say nothing of belittling the woke movement. Yet when these criticisms are hurled at Chomsky you have nothing to say in his defence.

Some guy in the comments has just joined your baying mob to say that Chomsky has always been suspect - "Just look at the way he's always been a genocide denier!" Monbiot must be delighted by all this stuff. Join the queue. I certainly won't be.

As far as I can make out, the only thing Chomsky is guilty of is standing up for his friends. Being too loyal.

When it is the very same media that spent years trying to crucify Chomsky, himself, he's bound to be suspicious of them when they attack his close friends. Consequently, he will, of course, give those same friends advice on how to deal with those attackers. What's the big deal?

Incidentally, (from the comments) Alan Mac Leod has gone through reams of Epstein emails and he has seen not a word referring to Chomsky and sex. Mac Leod also makes the point that Epstein was probably Chomsky's closest friend.

Chomsky is being demonised and we are rushing to collude in it. How quickly we forget.

-Indeed, for obvious reasons as it essentially took a position that claims were facts and that furthermore womens claims were ultimately to be believed over mens. But of course that's not the issue here.

The point about the reference to the MeeToo movement is that the author of the artice is using Chomsky's criticism of that movement to "prove" (as some would suggest) Chomsky's overall outright contempt for women leading to knowledge and support and possible participation in Epstein's sex crimes.

The whole article is simply full of innuendo. You're doing it yourself with your reference to Chomsky taking Israeli money because he stayed in one of Epstein's apartments. Why stop there? If Epstein was Mossad then we obviously can't trust Chomsky either. This would explain Chomsky's antipathy to BDS, presumably. No doubt some people are already overgeneralising to Chomsky being a Mossad agent.

The trouble with that is that Norman Finkelstein is also a strong opponent of BDS. So, there goes Norm. Mind you, we tend to be more tolerant of good old Norm, as a result of a few heated online debates with Alan Dershowitz.

Which reminds me that Dershowitz was also an outspoken enemy of Chomsky.

And, bless my soul, Dershowitz was a very good friend of Epstein! But people don't tend to mention that as it doesn't help their argument.

Chomsky does seem to have built up a lot of enmity over the years. These days all you need do is call Chomsky a scumbag and thousands will rush to say, I always thought he was a bit iffy.

We're doing the Left a huge disservice and immense harm.

I agree that we shouldn't rush to throw everything Chomsky out based on "he knew Epstein" but it's not just some casual association and his interactions with him reveal, at the very least, a lack of caution and a certain hypocrisy.

I still don't think, and haven't seen any evidence, that Chomsky was involved in the sexual crimes of so many of the others and I'm certainly not throwing out any of his books but it's still very disappointing.

To a certain extent, "they knew Epstein" is starting to be used as the new "are you now or have you ever been a member of the communist party?" so I agree we need to not jump to conclusions but you would think he'd have better judgement (especially the letter advising Epstein to "ignore" all that pesky noise about sex crimes) and it certainly leaves you having to ask questions about his record (as we should be doing in any case).

More to the point, has Krauss been found guilty and sentenced in a court of law? If not, feck
'em. Stuff needs to be tested in court.

We've seen attempts by Israel to find Hamas guilty of mass rape without one woman being found who'll come forward and actually say she was raped. Yet that hasn't stopped western women from rushing forward to claim rape on their behalf!

I haven't read all the article - it's like reading the gossip pages. After reading some of the shite that passes as proof on the Lifeboat these days
I want to preserve the few brain cells I have left.

Incidentally, whatever happened to the belief that it is better that a guilty man goes free than that an innocent man goes to jail.

And then he leverages in Woody Allen - accused of molesting Mia Farrow's daughter by Farrow. (After an investigation Allen was completely exonerated!).

Total garbage. He's even quoting commenters.

What the hell are you guys doing reading, posting and, perish the thought, believing, stuff like this article.
