Although I was only partially joking there, it's seriously hard to find anything to really make you think things will get better. The Gaza genocide and now this has just made it impossible to believe the power elite will ever course correct enough to pull us out of this doom spiral.

I've found the only way I can feel better is turning it all off; not doom scrolling, keeping out of the loop and although I hate being uninformed being removed from the constant hypocrisy and cant of the usual suspects seems to help.

Also, I've been watching the films of Anders Thomas Jensen, a Danish director that makes these pitch black comedies that are really great and criminally underseen. "Riders of Justice" "Adam's Apples" and "The Last Viking" are all worth a look. They make you laugh but also have a vaguely happy ending. They are wicked dark mind you so you have to be into that kind of humour. Mads Mikkelson is in a lot of his films. "Riders" is an amazing film that really got passed over a few years ago.

That, and my emergency morphine stash which I've managed to keep to half a dozen uses in a couple of years until recently lol.

having kids, (1 less tban 18 months ago tragically), still 3, makes the hopes for early death thing defunct.

I get a bit of hope from the thought that Israel might be getting a bloody good hiding.
Booze is not good although I have been going there a bit more of late to escape too much doom scrolling.

Up until a few years ago I used to run 3500 miles a year and a good 10 - 16 miler would always leave me feeling chilled. Hitting the rowing machine is another good non-pharmy route to some endorphins. Any cardio. Get a heavy bag and batter the crap out of it; that's another stress reliever.

I don't have a family but unplugging from the bullshit blizzard and spending quality time with them has to be a good shout.

Regardless of whether the orange sh!tstain and his demonic handlers bomb another country to pieces or not the wild garlic is coming out and the song thrushes are singing. They'll outlast the insanity as the final empire crumbles to dust, assuming things don't get really bad... Maybe some of us will too?

Hi Mark, I agree it's getting harder and harder these days. If there's any good to have come out of recent times, it's that more people are aware of the reality that our countries are murderous hypocrites. Maybe the UN will be undone eventually, but then maybe the countries with more sanity will understand what went wrong and how to create a new system that genuinely works to suppress the psychopaths from positions of power. I read a book once, partly set 1000 years from now, where in response to the devastating consequences of capitalism, humanity had become nomadic, excessive possessions were taboo, and no one stayed in the same place for more than nine days. The human race tread with more care on the planet. I find some hope in imagining better futures - they have to begin somewhere.

That's the long term, but in the short term I agree with others that turning off the news and having time with family and in nature, etc is really important.

We can't go on like this.

A murderous crisis every couple of years, an ongoing genocide, mass bombing of civilians in cities, the deliberate targeting of schools and hospitals: the powers of violence now have encompassed what was once considered barbaric into " strategy" and no-one is allowed to do anything because the worlds self- appointed hegemon sees all these things as somehow in it's interests, as appeasing it's vanity, allaying it's paranoia, as an economic benefit, as the maintenance of dominance.

It is just murder: mass murder worldwide authorised by an easily manipulated idiot man-child. But as we have seen, even with others whom you might consider relatively normal, the same dishonest murderous shit goes down repeatedly because it's a systemic issue: the incumbent president being "advised" by some of the most psychopathic corrupt individuals that have ever walked the earth.

It's not an individual thing: it almost doesn't matter what actor you have in the Whitehouse, the whole funding & lobbying system and it's media cheerleaders is irredeemably corrupt. It doesn't matter what President is voted in, nor even what party: have we seen the Democrats oppose this madness for example? No because they promised the same anyway and are willing it on.

And it doesn't stop with the US either. The European "leaders" are all funded and lobbied by the same outfits: Finance, Hydrocarbons, Military- Industrial, the Internet barons, the colonial zealots of Israel: all of them promote the same rabid madness.

And the racism is so obvious now: the demonisation and othering of other cultures, colours, religions, so that they can be killed with impunity and their resources stolen, merely for the wealthy to squander more of the worlds wealth in the same way, But even the racism is merely a temporary strategy. They will arbitrarily impoverish, starve & imprison the poor in their own society when they run out of foreign victims.

What has made this mess but the fake leadership, the "democratic" farce, the stinkingly corrupt lobbying system,the atrocious lies of the corporate media: the entire shit show that lobbies for and justifies fresh murders and massacres are all under the control of the very wealthy.

The public join the delusion or are disenfranchised. Any protest against all this madness is now crime.

We can't go on like this but even suicide is now fulfilling the lobbyists policy desire to avoid paying due medical costs,pensions and benefits: topping yourself removes another worthless "feeder" and a mouthy troublemaker which helps further the aims of this poisonous plutocracy.

The best thing that could happen would be for the current Western "democratic system" which is of course no such thing, to face a crushing defeat, then another, then another, because it is collectively a terrorist entity.

-It's not just Israel than needs "...removed from the pages of history": it's the entire West.

..saved two stranded worms the other day, dehydrating on the pavement...went back a bit later to check on them and they were gone...perked me up for the whole day!
(Pretty sure they didn't end up on a blackbird's dining table 'causd I put them under cover!

Three moggies here, so have taken to feeding the birds in a local field 'cause they are little buggers for trying to kill 'em all!
Had a kite swoop down behind me on their bird table the other day, I'd put some bigger stuff out for them...didn't see or hear it coming until it took off with some grub and was about two feet away from my head at eye level...frit me to death!

Like Ed I find some consolation in looking outwards -- both in space and time. A BBC4 doc the other week traced the history of our planet back to its beginning, then the birth of the galaxy we inhabit right back to the Big Bang itself. And I was left thinking what an insignificant blip in cosmic history we are, and that our human struggles amount to less than a pimple on a dimple on a flea's left ball. At the end of the programme I actually felt some small relief and consolation that all of this matters not one jot.

5000 years of "civilisation" is an eye-blink in the cosmic story.

It turns out that we're Cylons anyway....nm

I have no idea, but as laws are being enacted and arrests made, it's obvious that one the biggest Corporate elite drives is towards conformity by negating individual freedom of speech and through that actual destroying individual thought. With media monitoring and the use of AI this can only get worse.

It's actually a remarkable positive that a lot of people of all political persuasions are becoming aware that this is an issue so there is a crack there that can still be wedged.

I would reckon you don't underestimate what you are up against but dont be afraid to speak.

In my experience you won't convince anyone immediately or if at all. Though they would deny it most people receive their "opinions" directly from the corporate media so in effect you're not just undermining a solitary "opinion" but weakening an entire matrix of interwoven ones: thus the "Mail" reader, the "Guardian" reader...etc.

Humans are tribal creatures and this is the feature most prone to manipulation and highjack by the media. The idea is to give the comfort of "belonging" and in return they provide ready made "sets" of "views rather than simple stances on individual issues: this wraps the individual in an entire web of opinion or indeed deceit.
Therefore discussing any particular point never mind arguing a rational philosophy with others is immensely difficult because you're not taking on a mere opinion but questioning what has often become someone's entire political or philosophical "personality".

If you take the view you are arguing about a particular point often it seems others will be irrationally defensive about this. They chose to believe you are attacking their whole world view rather than merely questioning an "opinion": which is understandable because the tribal mind set indicates that in effect you are. You have to wedge doubt solidly into that crack in the dam however you can before the gap closes.

You can of course be dismissed as a mere individual with a "point of view" whereas they, well they have that illusory but comforting bond of the collective belief. This is true also.
Even if you have made what you think is a superb case, people will not drop their own "view" in a hurry or indeed at all, despite the fact that you may have shown it's shortcomings because, well, that might leave them without a tribe: i.e. a mere solitary "contrarian" an "oddball" or "loser"- Just like you in fact, and who wants to be like you, eh?!🤣.

But be familiar with the corporate "arguments" because effectively that's what people opinions usually are and what they will use: have a rebuttal ready for when you hear one repeated: which you will again and again. Keep on hammering in those wedges: one day the edifice may start to crumble.

Stay humorous...stay generous.

One of the biggest complements anyone ever gave me which was also one of the biggest criticisms came from an old friend who said to me recently: " You know thirty odd years ago you used to just say stuff and we all said: " Oh just ignore him! It's just Kenny stirring it as usual: he says these kinds of things all the time!" And then over the years things happened, and I thought "Kenny said that...". " Kenny pointed that out..."..and this happened so many times that I couldn't ignore it any more. It was hard to face the fact that thirty years ago we just chose to think you were spouting nonsense but in hindsight it was all actually true".

-My flaw was that my arguments were good enough to be remembered but were never taken on board until it was too late: I wish you all greater power of conviction than me.

My only prob. with the good fight is my age...for various reasons (esp. med,) I've been fighting it all my life and I'm tired of the bullshit....hope it doesn't end badly!
