The “Extreme Protest Group” designation proposed in the Crime and Policing Bill targets activists who use direct action tactics, such as damaging the infrastructure of weapons companies. Although the amendment will not proscribe “EPGs” as terrorist organisations, it will make being a member of an “EPG”, organising with an “EPG”, promoting the actions of the "EPG", and fundraising for an "EPG" a criminal offence. Convictions could result in up to three years in prison.
Take action now and email your MP to resist this dangerous affront to the diversity of tactics activists need for strong movements.
There is still time to stop this deeply repressive amendment. The Crime and Policing Bill will return to the House of Commons tomorrow, Tuesday 14 April.
Thanks for this, saw it on long train journey home yesterday and passed on widely. Our local MP LibDem Caroline Voaden looks likely to ignore the emails unfortunately, despite the local vicar being one of those arrested. She also abstained with all her party on the proscripion of Pal. Action, followed by excuses.
