https://www.normalisland.co.uk/p/as-a-corporate-journalist-im-angrier As a corporate journalist I’m angrier about the “Zionism is racism” motion than I am about genocide. Here’s why...
The Green Party of the UK committed one of the gravest crimes in living memory today when it passed a motion declaring that “Zionism is racism”. As a privileged Western journalist, who enjoys luxury in exchange for overlooking war crimes, I want to explain why I’m so angry right now.
Firstly, it’s a ridiculous oversimplification to claim that Jewish supremacy is racism. It not only alienates supporters of Israel’s genocide, it alienates moderates who feel Israel should’ve committed fewer atrocities. Clearly this is discrimination.
After the motion passed, I felt more pain than that baby girl who died in Gaza after screaming for two days with severe burns that she couldn’t get treated. Okay, that’s an exaggeration, but I was stressed because my boss called. He said I’d better convince the public that the Greens are the real racists, otherwise I’m fired.
Unfortunately, I’m far too uninformed to say anything meaningful on the subject, so I asked ChatGPT to help me patronise you. Here goes…
One of the key anti-Zionist arguments is that Zionists intended to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from the very beginning, therefore it’s wrong to pin all the blame for the genocide on Netanyahu.
According to the history books this is true, but it fails to consider that God promised Zionists this land about 3,000 years ago. This was around the time he kept sending plagues our way, so he wasn’t in a rational state of mind, but still…
The Green motion rambled about how Israel is an ethno-nationalist state in historic Palestine that dominates the non-Jewish population. Outrageously, it committed to a single democratic Palestinian state. This is particularly disgusting as it would mean an end to apartheid. It would mean equal rights for all. It would mean acting like the Zionist population are not God’s chosen people.
All of this is unfathomable to me. When the British occupiers handed Palestine over to Zionist occupiers, this is not what they had in mind. Personally, I agree with Adrian Ramsay that a single democratic state undermines the self-determination of both peoples. The idea of everyone getting an equal vote doesn’t reflect Green values.
The only moral position is to remain polite while Israel commits war crimes and use language that makes its supporters feel included. We should pretend our ultimate goal is a two-state solution—something that Israel would never allow, and even if it did, would still mean the domination of Zionists over the Arab savages. I don’t know why the Greens are being so divisive here.
All you need to know is the Israelis have been incredibly lenient on the Palestinians ever since they murdered 13,000 of them, kicked 750,000 out of their homes, and moved into them in 1948.
Every single time Zionists have taken another piece of land that was promised to them, the Palestinians have been unreasonable. They even whine when settlers go into the West Bank and smash up their shops. Don’t get me started on what they’re like when settlers beat a random teen to death for fun.
The few sensible Greens understand that we should be encouraging the Palestinians to be more tolerant of Zionists. Sadly, today’s motion has only fuelled division. The Green Party has undermined its ability to advocate for peace, which can only come from finding a sensible middle-ground between genocide and anti-genocide.
