Whew, still hot! It got hotter as the week progressed, from low 100's, such as 102, up to 114 yesterday. But, the nights have cooled. So, 50's most of the week, but 49 Thursday night/Friday morning. It takes a long time to get there, mostly the nights are comfortable. I want to object to 49, which is a 60 degree drop, but it really helps to cool everything off after a 110 degree day! And, it keeps the morning cooler, longer. I remember all to well the hot nights down south sometimes.
We're to have haze and patchy smoke through Sunday, perhaps from the fire in Oregon. The days should cool a little this coming week, and nights should stay in the 50's.
I was actually pretty productive this week, yeah! I went through some things, threw things away, and did a little cooking. I need some things from the store, but that's probably a week away, or a little more.
I've got 2 emeralds missing. I know that they are rolled up in one of those cloth jewelry holders. They are a matching set, and beautiful. My intention was to make a pair of earrings from them. I hope that the thieves didn't get them. In any case, I didn't find them...I wish!...but I found a pair of what my grandmother used to call 'paste' earrings that I loved.
I got them before Ds's wedding. They are gorgeous emerald-looking studs, but not too small. I don't remember now if they are crystal, lab grown, or what, but I found them. They aren't my real emeralds, but they are mighty pretty.
I also found some packets of cover crops that have been missing. They can be planted in the fall.
Then, I sorted through some stationary items. Envelopes, stamps, stickers, pens, and so forth. These had been missing, so I wanted all like-kind items together.
I got most of our medications this week. Some are gotten monthly, some every three months. But one, we only get approx. once a year. When the Dr. called it in, they said that it had gone up. It was bought by another pharmaceutical co., and for 1/2 the amount that we used to get, the cost went up 600%! We're seeing now if it can be covered by the insurance co...who would rather not, but maybe they will. I hope so. At least I have the rest that we use.
It's definitely 'bug season.' A wasp was in the house, hanging out at the window screen in the living room, and taking out crickets has become a regular event.
Dh had a 'situation' the other day. Something fell on the floor that he dropped, so he went behind the toaster oven at the floor to clean it up, without thinking. He felt it, and immediately registered that a spider was on him. Luckily, he smashed it immediately on him, as it was a black widow. And, luckily, he wasn't bitten. Lesson reminder: don't reach into dark corners without looking first!
It's been so hot that even Uhura doesn't want to play outside during the day. Then, when she comes in, she stretches out on the floor.
This week she has decided to befriend Hira a little. She was not really happy with any dog for the last while, but has changed her mind...a little.
When she is on the floor, at least one dog is close to touching her. And, a few days ago, she got up on the couch with Hira, and they slept next to one another for about 1/2 an hour.
I am still not sure if Hira would chase a running cat and go into prey driven mode, so I'm being watchful, but it looks like she just likes the cats. She whines when Uhura walks by her. And, last night, Dh was holding Henry and she sniffed and sniffed and sniffed his legs, feet, etc.
Thyri has broken out in a rash of spots. The Dr. isn't sure what it is, so prescribed her medication in case it's an allergic reaction to something. But, because you can't rule out a bug, she missed school yesterday.
Speaking of Thyri...I have needed a little notebook of some kind for a project, and in the things that we found, I found one that is the perfect size. To make it even better, on the cover is a photo of Thyri when she was about a week old.
Hopefully, I can be productive this weekend, as well. I always feel good when I am accomplishing things.
Oh, btw...I got an email from my anti-virus. They say that they've been finding malware in PDF files, so be careful out there!
Well, time to answer some posts then see about getting to bed a little earlier than usual!
How was your week?
