We had a hot week, but not as hot as what we're expecting this weekend, through Thursday of next week. It's going to be way up there, temperature-wise, and there will be wind. We will have isolated thunderstorms on Monday night, but with no precipitation to speak of. Which means what...just lightning?
We haven't done as much as I'd like this week, so I have been working with the dogs, saving computer files, writing, and so forth, as well as having connectivity issues.
Did anyone know that hoof and mouth has been 'going around?' I had no idea. Apparently, childcare settings are one place that you can catch it. I never would have guessed.
Ds had a kind of 'fun day' at work this week. He was working between here and the next town over one day, and a cow came up and licked him!
Then, he sent me a selfie of a horse, that same day, with his head on Ds's shoulder! There were 2 horses, but one, in particular, was tugging on his hair, and overall interacting with him. Too cute.
I made my 1st 'Scrap Broth' in a while. I always save part of my celery, and keep it in the freezer for making broth with, but it's been years since I've had all my veggies for it in the freezer.
When I was first married, and the children were small, I used whole chicken a lot. So, I would take parts of it...wings, backs, etc. and put them in the freezer.
Then, when I used carrots, I kept an inch or so from every carrot that I used, and popped them into the freezer, as well. And, finally, when I used an onion (most meals.) I would take the first 2 layers and put them in the freezer. The onion layers, that is, not the skin. Sometimes those layers are a bit tough, depending on the onion. Then, once a month, it all went into my stock pot, and I made broth.
Years later I began using whole carrots from the bag, a couple of whole onions cut up, etc. But, a month ago, I asked why I was doing that? And, created freezer bags, for each vegetable, and began again with my 1" off of each carrot (when I make soup, stew, chicken pot pie, etc.), my 2 layers off of each onion, not counting my usual celery.
So, Thursday I made broth, and it was delicious! Hooray for scrap bits! Another reason this is good, is because sometimes I run out of carrots, and more rarely, but more often recently, onions. This ensures that I can make broth anyway!
We have soup from it, I made brothy rice yesterday. The chicken is good in chicken bisque, and chicken salad. So, that worked out well! Broth is frozen as a base for soup, gravy, quick brothy rice, and so forth.
It was very hazy yesterday, as there is a fire in S. Humboldt, just north of us. Hopefully, they will get it out soon.
Krypto has a new 'trick' when he doesn't like what Hira is doing. He smacks her with his head. At first I thought that it was an accident, but then later the same day, she walked over and whined at Uhura (she always whines at Uhura, unless she's on the couch with her.), and Krypto deliberately walked over and hit her with his head. Uhm, okay... Kids!
The hummingbirds were having so much fun this morning! They were flying around the feeder like butterflies, and one kept landing in the 'crows nest.' (The thing attached to the top of the feeder's chain. You're supposed to fill it with water to discourage/catch ants, but there's no water in it, as we've so far not had ants as a problem.
It was really fun to watch them landing, and sitting in the ant cup. So cute.
Uhura didn't want to come inside around the middle of the week. She would roll over, play in a patch of grass, and such, but then when you walked over to her, she stayed out of reach. Did I already say, "Kids!"? Hopefully, though, she'll be over that this weekend and the first half of next week. It will be too hot for her to be out, even if she's having fun.
I'm trying my hand at some simple drawings for a cookbook. I'm looking at some free clipart for the rest. We'll see how it goes.
What I need are illustrations for beginniers on things like, how to cut a sandwich...picture a sandwich with a dotted line through it, showing where to cut.
Ds asked if I would be insulted using AI, if it was free. I hadn't thought about it before, but I suppose not, it's only drawings.
I do have objections in other areas, though. Such as the AI that a group was using to help people with eating disorders. The high call rate warranted, they decided, an AI response by phone. The problem was, just as Iaasic Asimov predicted decades ago (my dad once gave me a great book of his.), it began 'learning.' As it did, it was adding things to say to people from it's 'experiences,' and began giving out bad, and in some cases, dangerous advice to callers. They finally had to take it off line, and are seeing if they can 'fix' it.
Then again, I still think that people should call one another and talk, and that things like mayo and mustard should be in glass jars, lol! Oh, and don't forget coffee in metal cans! How are we supposed to find a good container for things like 16 penny nails, without coffee cans? (See question below.)
Well, I have some sorting to do while it's cool enough out to do it. How was your week?
