We had a hot, but not sweltering week in the 90's mostly, with 100-102 a couple of days. The nights have gotten cool, though - high 40's to low 50's. It looks like more of the same next week.
As I mentioned yesterday, we had lines being replaced this week. And, I think that new power poles are going in nearby. They are flying them all over the place the past 2 weeks. But, that shouldn't affect me.
Well, my new baby chickens - the brown leghorns - who are 4.something months old now, began laying eggs this week! Like all first eggs, they are small, but I'm impressed.
Today is Dh's birthday, and because I didn't have any meat until yesterday, we're keeping it simple. He wanted spaghetti, which we will have, and I offered him a simple dessert.
I actually have a box mix for brownies in my pantry, and got miniature marshmallows. I'm going to bake a small pan of brownies - he doesn't really need the sugar all by himself, he says, and that's correct - then, at the end, I'll put on marshmallows, and put them back in to melt, and slightly brown on the top. Easy peasy, but not bad sounding. It's definitely not the usual that we have. In fact, I've never made it before. Hopefully, it's good. 2 ingredients! Well, I need to add eggs and oil, but I have those.
Thyri is going through something new. She loves her school, but has decided that she doesn't want to nap for 2 hrs. at school. She cries and wants to go home and nap with her mommy and daddy - not that they nap when she does, but that's how she's saying it. I wasn't a big napper in K, when we were supposed to, either, but honestly, I wouldn't have a clue on how to deal with it. My 3 didn't go through this.
The smoke has been worse some days than others. I look forward to it dissipating completely.
We have fewer hummingbirds this week. I don't know why. They were here until something like Dec. last year.
We got a call from a probation officer this week. She is in charge of the man who kept going into the shop and cutting our locks. He's going before a judge, and she wanted to know if there was anything that we wanted to suggest to the judge. Really? How about that he relocated to Bavaria? Aside from that, though, we told her that we feel strongly that the only way that he will stop offending, or at least that there's a chance of him stopping, is to get off of drugs. He's a methamphetamine user, big time.
And, that the 90 day programs don't work. That he needs to be in a drug treatment program for a while, and that he should have to test for drugs on a regular basis. In fact, his freedom should depend on it.
Maybe he's not a nice guy even off drugs, I don't know him, but he'll have a clearer head if he's sober, and hopefully will make better choices. There's something that comes with meth use called: drug psychosis, which makes for bad interactions with others, and can become permanent after time. So, we'll see. The woman wrote it down and promised that the judge will see it. That was different.
Oh, and the main guy that went into the house originally, was recently arrested for driving without a license, or something like that, and missing something he was supposed to do. But, he got out a few days later. Frustrating.
The pumpkins are ripening, and Ds has already made something from one. He made those candied ones. Has anyone ever had candied sweet potatoes or pumpkin? It's not like candying them in a skillet, it's boiling chunks in syrup for a long time, and in the end they are like a confection; a candy, and are dry to the touch. We used to get them at the 'Mexican Store.' (That's actually what it was called in the phone book!)
You could, at one time, also get squares of cactus, as cactus candy. Not the red type made from opuntia cactus fruit's juice, but actual, fiberous pieces of golden barrel cactus boiled in sugar syrup. No one makes that type anymore, but it's the same process.
Anyway, Ds cracked the code and made boiled pumpkin candy. Both guys said that it tasted like what we used to buy sometimes when the kids were little.
Thyri thought that it was pretty good. She got to help pull the seeds out. She's going to have fun this Halloween! You get to get messy, then roast the seeds.
Well, I think that I should continue posting so that I can get a little sleep before making the spaghetti - which I'm looking forward to also!
How was your week?
