These stories take place in the Victorian era and I have never read books with such "up close and personel" stories. Amazing, fascinating but very brutal life and death details. I am so glad I did not live then. They take place in England where men supressed the women in their lives - Rich Men were the worst - completely. Horrific!
Its a tale of a family with 3 sisters. One was murdered - the remaining two were totally difference from each other.
The family were close to Upper class. The eldest daughter was murdered, the middle daughter was Independent and the last was the youngest and married into a rich family.
The middle daughter married Inspector Thomas Pitt and the Police were rarely knew what they were doing. Many in power positions were of the Elite.
I don't want to give details re Thomas or Charlotte for they are the basis of the stories. Which are fascinatig and horrific at the same time as their love story lays under it all.
I am in the 9th book with a total of 35 in all but I have a number more to buy. These are used or almost new - especially hardbacks. They cost usually 3 or 4 dollars. I stated out buying 1 or 2 at a time I will but the balance of books to buy one one fell swoop. 8-)
Anyway, if you like Victorian history I can tell you I relate as my Dads Mother was a Victorian and I was raised with all the rules. My Mothers mother was very independent and was raised on a Plantation. My mother was very strict as to my behavior. As the eldest child on both sides of the family.... I am very grateful that my Dad moved
us to LA in 1963. With out that I might have been someone totally different. Whew! That was a close escape!
I really do recommend Anne Perry's "Charlotte and Thomas Pitt" books. I can see my grandparents - both families raised on the East Coast - in some of her characters.
If any of you read her - I hope you will post what you think of them.
Ta Ta!
