But it's all fan speculation either leaves the team this season.
*What if"?
D. Hunter for that missing #2? Or is Hunters value closer to a mid round pick?
His contract is certainly trade friendly. Smiths not so much. His contract pays him $30m these next 2 seasons. Kinda high for a lber.
I mentioned In another post. Jack Campbell would be a great #1 pick.
Another guy, my annual local legend want is this kid... https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2023DHenley.php
A Wazzu Cougar. The pack 10 is a speed driven pass happy league. Henley showed up in the couple games I watched. Reportedly, he also a high IQ player. The local news had a 15-20 second q&a on their broadcast. The intelligence showed.
Probably a #2 is required to get him. Dudes a player.
I wouldn't mind having both Campbell & Henley working that Flores Defense. They'd be bad ass playing side by side @ the Bank.
Campbell's height, Henley's range. QB"s would be hard pressed to find windows in that intermediate area most offenses look to exploit. Not to mention the inside run dominance the 2 would help achieve. Both are great filling gaps.
I bring up an ancient moment from the Joe Montana dynasty prequel.
Montana was drafted in '79. 2-14 that season.
In 1980- 6-10. Niners defense was terrible those years. Allowing 416 & 415 points respectively.
In the 81 draft. The niners went all in on defense.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/sfo/1981_draft.htm
5 of their 1st 7 picks became instant starters contributors.
3 of the 1st 4 picks were dB's and with existing 3rd year safety Dwight Hicks became one of the era's best db units. Possibly a top 5 unit in NFL history. The self proclaimed, " Dwight Hicks & his hot licks" unit. That draft propelled the 49ers into the 80's niners dynasty. The team finished out the century winning at least 10 games per year, as well as a full hands worth of Superbowls.
It can be done.
Btw, that 81 niner team?
Gave up 250 pts, 2nd in the NFL to the eagles 221. They finished 13-3 & won the 1st Superbowl in franchise history.
Montana? Yeah. He was clutch as he grew into his role.
But, I would argue, aggressively! It was that brilliant 81 draft. Not Montana. That propelled the niners into a dynasty. Boomer Easiason, Tommy Kramer or Don Majkowski could have led that niner dynasty to the same glory. Joe was just in the right place to reap the Walsh genius.
Oh, btw. 1981 Was Bill Walshes 3rd NFL season.
Yeah, I like it. Lbers in round 1& 2.
Turn Flores LOOSE!
