It was the backwards pass followed by a forward pass that went to the 9er's 3 yard line. It was a heck of a play and then the refs drop a flag for offensive pass interference on Osborne. In high school, college, and the NFL, you can block downfield when the pass is behind the line of scrimmage prior to the pass being completed. You see wide receiver screens (slip screens) all the time where the wide receiver begins blocking prior to the catch since it is behind the line of scrimmage.
Maybe the backwards lateral changed that ability but I don't see why. Anyone know if the lateral changed the blocking rule. Thoughts?
