I had 3 operations in the last 12 months looking for bowel cancer and a hernia repair so getting to lose a lot of my time i have left just recovering.
So, Today i ordered 2 knee braces with large hinges at the back and operated by 3 large springs that will possibly take 2 stone of weight off the knees when bending. This cortisone idea stuck with me over the years and the Dr had been very honest telling me it was a dangerous procedure. He had also said it would work for 3 months if i was lucky.
The modern knee replacement is now much better with slight rotation possible on the better ones. Mine is mostly held to the bone with cement and the problem is the bone deteriorates and the cement lets go. The life quoted on mine was 10 years so i have doubled that. I was 51 when i had that which was done in the Nuffield in Exeter. I was able to return to work until retirement at 56 and still climbing scaffolds and ladders back then. I would always recommend these new knees to those healthy and under about 65. Not for me now as i have multiple problems especially as Parkinsons is gaining a little each year. Lucky i can still walk using tramadol pain relief.
Best thing i did was buy my house 40 years ago and gradually made it a disabled accessible house. I made sure i had a straight corridor to the stairs and 2 toilets. A wheelchair front door with a metal bottom edge if i do get in a wheelchair. Shower room with no step and handrails, twin handrails on the stairs and all water taps are lever operated.A double door large shed ready for an electric buggy with a drive out to the pavement. I intend to stay here just as i intended back in 1983.
