All we do down here in the Wairarapa is use expensive(cray) bait, biff it in the water and hope to catch a Snapperand in all probability you will catch a Red Cod,....no skill required honest! Ask Gary Kemsley Our beaches have a "drop off" area reasonably close to shore and you only need to cast out just past it 30/40mtrs or there abouts. Most of us use break-out sinkers so the line can be tensioned resulting in a bend on the rod tip.Sometimes you will see a series of small bites, but usually the cod takes the bait and comes in towards you,resulting in your rod tip straightening.....and your on I said it was easy ! use 3/0 Gammie circle hooks,on a two hook ledger rig or one hook IMP pully rig.
