    Stunned Mullet!!! Archived Message

What the hell is this!!!. Upon flicking through the new MAF regulations hand book and subsequently local leaflet, primarilly to observe the new maf size limit on Gurnard at 25cm(Joke), i noticed that there is now a size limit in the Central fishery area only(NewPlymouth, Wellington, eastcoast to eastcape) on YELLOW EYED MULLET!!!!! 35 cms or 350mms. What the????. Printing error surely???. I will make a phone call tomorrow to check to see if this is in fact correct. Id seen no other or priour notification. Had others???. But what made me a little bit more bewildered and confused was that there is no size limit on Herrings, also stated on the list of finfish!. What the hell is a Herring. Herring in my teranology, and refering to Collins New Zealand Fishes Identification guide, is refered to a juvenille Yellow eyed mullet. So if a herring has no size limit, and a Yellow eyed mullet can not be taken under the size of 35cms, where does that leave me and you, and that kid sitting on the wharf? Bewildered????. Im baffled. But as i said i will phone tomorrow and post tomorrow with some reasoning, for the above. Lets just call them all big Herrings eh?
