Crayfish...

Hey guys im just unsure of how to use crayfish for bait. It sounds silly but i want to know when to use it and how to prepare also. This is because its a bloody waste to just throw and hope. Any helpers??

Segment the tail. Its segmented already just chop each segment. Depending if your stingy or genorus and dependent on hook size how big you make the baits. Pop em outer the shell and insert hook(s) and bind. Nice versatile bait.

Where would be a good place to get some crayfish for bait if you cant get your own guys

Hand potting off the rocks will be ok. fresh gurnard or kahawai frames work well!

Commercial cray fishers have rejects that are dead or damaged and can't be sold for human consumption. Sometimes they're willing to swap some for boxes of beer

They also get lots of Occys in their pots at times.

Try kaiti beach, nthn makarori, or pouawa theres some rocks u can get too 2hrs b4 low that hold a few. pm me if u need directions.

kaiti beach during the day. But if you honestly want to get them at night try the Gisborne warf it is teeming with crayfish and giant Jack mackerel, kahawai and small cuta are suckers for small live baits under a spot light. burley is key!. if your real lucky youl pick the odd slimy mackerel....
