It is always quite entertaining watching consumer programmes where so-called experts knock the motor trade. The more serious side is that the public, our customers, are being mislead. To address the issue of estimating for servicing, I had a customer who was a driving instructor. He asked why I did not offer fixed-price servicing and I replied that it would be difficult because I might find that more work was required than I had effectively "quoted" for. He was not convinced, and I only thought of a good analogy after he had left. Would he offer fixed-price driving tuition up to a successful test pass? I think possibly not and the principle is the same surely! Steve
