Where does this figure of 'another thousand or so' come from? From the Hamas Media Office no doubt. Used by you as the absolute truth with no questioning whatsoever.
Much has been made of Israel's downgrading of the numbers killed on 7th October from an original estimate of 1,400 to, firstly, 1,200 and then again to 1,000. Proves the Israelis are liars, right? Well, no, this is what often happens with mass deaths. Initial estimates are almost always higher than the final count - people are scattered, those missing and later found are often initially assumed to be dead. On 9/11, the original bill boards announced 10,000 dead.
When has Hamas ever downgraded its estimates of those killed in Israeli air strikes and raids? So, uniquely it would seem, Hamas' estimates of those killed are correct to 27 decimal points?
In my original post I did not argue that a rape allegation = a proven assault and, of course, rape allegations must be proven. I argued that there are many reasons why Israeli women who may have been sexually assaulted are reluctant to publicise this by coming forward.
As for the released hostages saying they were well treated, well, perhaps they were. Or perhaps they are afraid of saying anything that might endanger those who are still guests of Hamas.
