I was thinking Galloway and Rochdale might be a good match and its interesting that aside from Gaza he did in fact make a point of campaigning on a lot of local issues: he himself probably realises that his days as captain of the traditional left's Squadrone Volante have reached an end.
I wouldn't be concerned with Galloway: I have an idea he will pan out, but in a general sense what you are pointing out is absolutely correct and a huge problem in politics. Labour has always been dismissive of its own base: Frank Field for one was on record saying he didn't give a shit what his electorate thought and the present mob under Starkers (-a typo but I liked it...) have taken that as their mantra, but it doesn't stop in the UK...warmongering "Green" ( now there's an oxymoron...) Annelina Baerbock recently said similar things about German voters.
In both the UK and Europe our erstwhile "representatives" don't actually represent us at all: neither on domestic nor International matters. They represent the transatlantic elite, the business agenda, the lobbyists, the Neocon doctrinaire think-tanks of long dead Thatcherite-Reaganite billionaires...and it shows.
The low turnout and dissolutionment with politics you mention as a genuine concern in fact actualy suits them, as it leaves a motivated wealthier residual voter base easier capturured by the corporate media ideology they both follow and espouse.
So where to from here? Well, it will get worse as there's no motivation by our politicians to repair that disconnect and as above, not voting won't do anything but make this more entrenched.
In short what we require are representatives far removed from the present mob who have adopted a transatlantic mindset wholesale on both national and international issues.
-At present that seems like rubbing a magic coffee pot and awaiting a Genie.
