The low turnout is not a ringing endorsement of any candidate

According to the UK Parliament's election history, the turnout in Rochdale during previous general elections was:- 2019: 60.1% 2017: 64.1% 2015: 58.8% 2010: 58.1% A lower turnout in by-elections is not unusual but 39.7% is pretty low - an awful lot of Rochdale folk clearly felt they couldn't vote for any candidate. I think this should concern people. It ought not to be controversial to say what I'm about to but I suspect it will be - any candidate standing in a UK election should, first and foremost, be invested in serving the people of his or her own constituency. George Galloway is not the MP for Gaza, he's the MP for a neglected part of northern England that has plenty of problems.

- With so many MPs seeinging their role as "MPs against Gaza" maybe it's time we had an "MP for Gaza". - Der March 1, 2024, 1:56 pm
