Lets be blunt, a short interval of elation followed by disappointment after disappointment - we are less than a decade back to the battleground of 2015, namely both main political parties pushing austerity - the Corbyn blimp has done zero to change the Parliamentary reality, which is austerity all the way baby, some rearranging of deck chairs and plenty of magic money tree money for war.
The only difference today with a decade ago is the fact that the UK is not a member of the EU, or at least formally, but, as with Ukraine, Israel or China, the UK might as well have remained with the sinking ship of Brussels as whatever returned sovereignty it could have had, such as a looser monetary policy and forward thinking fiscal policy, maybe perhaps in preparing for an economy that's more sustainable has been squandered.
The sad fact remains, and, having been a member of the PLP since 1983, the Right of the Party has never played nice. Further, it was a dead cert the MSM would run a media campaign just as nasty/negative as that against Michael Foot. The one big difference, was unlike the early 80s, a new, alternative medium existed to be exploited, which, formally the JC-McDonnell axis failed to capitalise on, despite numerous Corbyn themed blogs, Facebook groups and highly active Twitter accounts with substantial followers.
Is it worth even mentioning he could have gone over the heads of the PLP and NEC with direct appeals to the membership, which at its zenith was some 80% pro-Corbyn. Alas it never happened.
JC may be liked by many, but his leadership was lackluster and his failure to fight back legion.
Such a loss.
