    Withdrawal from arms control treaties, eastward expansion of NATO, bases in Poland and Rumania, adoption of 'first use' etc are all part and parcel of the attempt by the US to assert unipolar dominance, consistent with the Wolfowitz Doctrine, in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union and thus of dipolarity (and MAD as a way of ensuring a balance for peace).

    The putative end of the Cold War should have led to a 'Peace Dividend' and an era of greater cooperation . Instead US inability to accept multipolarity has massively increased the danger of hot nuclear war (human annihilation), if not over Ukraine then over whatever is the next 'danger' down the line.
