I have an issue with comments like this. You somehow suggest that Ted is doing something nefarious by spending a year as our interim AD. TK did not design the CalPers retirement system. It is a part of the normal compensation of employees of the University. FWIW, compared to similar large Universities across the country, LBSU pays in the lower half of wages, but the retirement benefit makes the overall compensation competitive. Many here complain about how turnover of good people in athletics makes it hard for us to compete. Why do you think we have this turnover? It is because often we do not pay a competitive wage. Without the retirement benefit, turnover across the University would be massive. But, regardless of what you think about public retirement systems, insinuating that taking the offered benefits is somehow unethical is plain BS. I might not be in the camp that thinks hiring an accountant as AD is in the best interest of the program, but I am grateful for the job TK did.
Cost savings at the detriment of overall athletic department standing….
Meanwhile, don’t be surprised when Mr Interim AD gets over $3k more a month in pension after this. Crooks.
Nice article! There will be pressure on new Ad to get the deficit in order. Must also hire the right people. GOOD LUCK!!
Thoughts:
* bummer about Alexis. Wonder where she went in AZ?
* I bet the freeze on her hiring, and the freeze in hiring a new AD was cost saving…..not paying either salary as a means of part of the deficit address. This follows the same approach when Vic left and the AD hiring was delayed. Utilizing Cindy as the interim AD. Same tactic taken this time with Ted.
* think Ted has done an admirable job given what he stepped into, having to deal with two unexpected hiring, and most importantly securing the student initiative.
*. Reporting structure to VP of Finance (Ops) might have to do with Jane not wanting to deal with an athletic dept. deficit? Or maybe she is looking at retirement and sees the reporting structure lending to continuity?
Quote from article, "According to the job listing for the athletic director position, the new athletic director will report to the university’s treasurer/CFO, and not the university president. This is unusual in college sports and a first at LBSU." Isn't this called passing the buck to a subordinate?
I think I got it correct now
