Look I don’t like NIL. It’s unfair in many ways. It’s clearly set up for the P4 Conferences. But if we do nothing at all we might as well drop Mens Basketball. The new coach and players will go elsewhere.
I think in another couple of years or so the P4 Conferences will separate from the NCAA and go on their own. Maybe the rest of the 300 or so former D1 Schools can go back to just offering scholarships. We will see what happens.
We will not donate to NIL. That money directly goes to athletes. Once a player gets the money there is no way to guarantee he would stay at LBSU or instead use it to go to another school. There is no way to guarantee the money will be used to get an education or really benefit LBSU. These monies really do nothing to enhance the offerings at the school or to promote the total college experience. There is another factor in that LBSU has not created any NIL for any women's sports. As a result LBSU could be subject to lawsuits.
We will continue to donate to sports within the athletic department. This will strengthen our facilities, and everything else on campus our school has to offer the athletes. The main goal for colleges should be to promote the availability of a good education as well as a good athletic experience.
