Long Beach State Sports : Re: Merchandising/ Student Store

As someone who talks often with those in the bookstore that can say things have become better in terms of merchandise as Nike is the leader in sales. New brands such as Tommy Bahama to Champion is being added.

The styles we have are quite similar to other schools such as U$C etc due to the manufacturer offering items and placing that schools logo on it.
Visit the SC bookstore as will find like I have the same merchandise with just their logo.

I do agree that some items do exist longer with nothing new such as t-shirts that new designs are needed.

As for the colors that agree with the earlier post that excuse that this does not sell so we will not offer it. Told that those on campus are tired of black and want other colors. Not sure about sales on those as again the athletic classics like Nike are their best seller by far. The colors that do not sell end up in the clearance racks.

They are trying a new alumni collection but right now just a few things although some brown which is good.

Better news that little to no Elbee on clothing as I can see that this does not sell at all.

Finally, bookstore is being remodeled as will be modern looking with Nike in the front as you walk in. Upstairs will be a lounge for students due to the remodel of the student union.

I worked at the bookstore when I was a student. I remember it was very difficult to get clothing in the school colors brown and gold. The people in charge of ordering argued that no one bought it, and that pink was what people wanted so that’s what they sold. I never understood how you could argue something would not sell when it is not offered for sale, but they did.

Over the years LBSU made real progress in promoting pride in who we were until we made a U-turn. The “new” merchandise keeps me away as I do not like the new BEACH logo or Shark mascot. I noticed that Elbee is various shades of grey. I guess grey is the new pink.

I feel like the school store to buy items could be better. I know many of us have expressed concerns with branding/Mascot etc. Perhaps with a new University President coming in they will fix many of these areas. What are your thoughts in the poll below about our merchandising? For years I have wanted the basketball shorts that are warn by the players on court. many schools sell these in their stores. Also the Jersey they sell should allow for either a custom Number, or just put 49 like it used to be. the double zero 00 looks lame in my opinion. Thoughts? Ideas?
