Link to article on how the new USU will be funded:
https://lbcurrent.com/news/2023/09/24/student-center-fees-set-to-increase-by-255-per-semester-next-academic-year/
"According to ASI, the new fee will help pay for planned renovations to the Student Union buildings and will include but is not limited to expanded food service, seating and increased informal student lounge space. Additional study space with group study rooms, an expanded Beach Pantry and Basic Needs wing are also in the renovation plans."

As I understand it, funds for building renovations and new buildings do not come out of the same pool of money that operations come from. Additionally, since the Student Union is ASI, the cost of the renovations/rebuild will be directly born by the students via fees to repay debt to build it.

I expect the bean counters will have a lot of influence as to who the new university president will be.
The problem adding to the financial woes will be added costs for the new student union. It was originally set to be a restoration and update to the existing structure. As I understand it now it is a total demo and start anew. If that is in fact the situation restrictions on spending through the university will be greater to make up for the added costs.
