Interim appointments typically do not impose change or implement an aggressive action plan which is needed right now at LBSU. He will probably just be kicking the can down the road until a permanent appointment is made. This will just extended the uncertainty in the athletic department.

I think to do this kind of job, you need significant public admin experience, and Mr. Jones has it. But, I think starting your own business and having to compete for clients is a highly valuable background, that tends to ground a person in reality in ways that public work sometimes does not. Agree that the current leadership is wanting.

Being a named Partner in a law firm is not quite that big of a deal when it's you and another guy starting your own law firm. It just means you're in private practice. (It also doesn't mean that this iterim won't do a good job--let's hope he does.)
But it is interesting that neither the current Provost (the logical successor), the VP for Admin and Finance, or any other campus person (other VP's or the Chief of Staff, who is an attorney too) was named Interim. I don't know the reason, but it seems that either they were considered for the permanent job and eliminated from consideration, weren't considered and might be in the next pool, or weren't determined to be good interim material.
That's kind of an astounding critique of the current (remaining) administration.

I think criticism of the outgoing President is not unreasonable. I think Connelly was a huge step down from Alexander and Maxson. Additionally, When you spend enormous time and money and cannot identify a good candidate, it seems silly not to be critical of the process.
On the other hand, at this point, I see little reason to be critical of the temp. I think we know too little about him to be sure, but in general I like some things. 1) He was in private practice for a number of years as well as being a named partner in a law firm. 2)He also has extensive background in the CSU. I am hopeful this background combining experience in private and public service has him well prepared.

You guys complain about our outgoing president, as well as the temp person and the search process. Do you think it is easy to replace a university president? Also, I hope this current person, Jones, will do good things.

Nobody interested possibly due to lower pay than most college presidents as well as the headaches running the school at this time.

How do we not have a permanent president? She gave ample notice.
