Long Beach State Sports : Game thoughts

The Good:
1. We won!
2. Sykes 30 pts, 5-9 3s . He is the real deal.
3. Lewis 7 assists
4. Farrell 10 min 6 pts and 2 rebs
5. Johnson played 24 min, had a couple of ice dunks, and 2 blocks
6. Petar had 14 pts and 6 assists
7, Only 7 turnovers for LB

The bad:
1. On D, we kept allowing the USD guards to drive to the hoop. We gave them easy angles/paths to the basket. Solution stop their progress by getting in front, taking the lane away, and taking a charge.
2. Dallas Washington had a bad lower leg injury. He was in a boot and on crutches in the second half.
3. DMX did not play but warmed up before the game. He was nursing an ankle injury before the season started. With Washington hurt, DMX will have to step it up when he's able to play.
4. Free throw shooting 5 -10 = 50% which is not acceptable

1. The team plays hard almost always and Coach Acker coaches hard. Working hard at the end of the game finally led to a win!

2. Acker is not a game type X's and O's coach. He was a player coordinator at SD State and it shows.

3. Sykes is a very nice, talented shooting guard. I would think it would be doubtful that he stays very long at LB. Some major program will make him a nice rotation player. A. Traore was a talented player at LB and left for Louisville as a rotation player. With the lack of money I would think LB will hardly ever retain a top notch player.

4. We need a leader!! Sykes is a shooting guard and we need a vocal point guard type. Although no one is vocal Diaz probably suits that role best.

5. Talent level is so-so and really not good enough to compete for more than an 8th place or lower Big West finish.

6. The future does not look exceptionnaly bright. Acker has recruited two below average classes and because of little money in the program it will probably not get much better!
