1. 20 assists and 6 TOs is why we stayed in and won the game. That is almost unheard of for a LB team, one thing this squad is doing well is not turning the ball over lately, USD defense wasn't good but we took advantage. Lewis has mostly been a dud scoring but he got 7 assists, Petar had 6, Diaz had 3 good dishes.
2. Acker is like Monson he will play a certain style to death, tonight on defense we were getting burned non stop on man d inside because no help was ever coming. After 3 or 4 in a row you call a time out and tell the team to double low as soon as USD backs down within 12 feet. They figured that out mid way 2nd half and started getting stops, which turned the game around.
3. Acker called a stupid play after a timeout with under a minute to go and down 1. The inbounds lob to Shay had little chance of success, lots of time on the clock to setup the play, and Acker takes a big risk on a home run kind of play. I hated that call because if Shay misses but gets fouled, he stinks at the line. I get how Shay had a couple strong rebound dunks in the game but that call and the lack of adjustments on defense after we keep getting torched on backdowns inside by USD indicate our HC is still learning on the job.
4. Dallas Washington fell awkwardly was in a lot of pain, on the telecast did they have any info on his injury? Came back out in the 2nd half on crutches with a boot on his left foot, so I'm guessing a bad sprain hopefully no worse than that.
5. Sykes is a stone cold scorer and is ok on defense, ballhandling, court vision. When was the last frosh shooting guard with this level of composure and scoring skills? LA? James Cotton?
6. USD is not that good, has some good players but nothing special, and they were shooting close to 60% from the field until the defense was adjusted then they cooled off to around 50%.
7. FT shooting this year won't be acceptable. 5-10 tonight, USD was 6 of 7. I felt like it might cost us the game.
8. We've been a good rebounding team but got waxed tonight on the boards.
9. Diaz has quick hands only 1 official steal but he poked away 2-3 other balls has good timing.
10. Acker seems to be high on Levillian's potential he keeps starting the kid who works his butt off but is prone to mistakes and Acker barks at him a lot and deservedly so, and also encourages him like he's a personal project or something. Leo is an interesting player, he's strong, very long arms, and good footwork just needs a lot of development but I like the long term potential, problem is that he's a starter learning on the job.
Glad we got a DI win albeit vs weak competition but they closed it out and its gotta start somewhere. Next two games @UCSB and home v UCSD would be a miracle to win hope we can make good showings.

1. The team plays hard almost always and Coach Acker coaches hard. Working hard at the end of the game finally led to a win!
2. Acker is not a game type X's and O's coach. He was a player coordinator at SD State and it shows.
3. Sykes is a very nice, talented shooting guard. I would think it would be doubtful that he stays very long at LB. Some major program will make him a nice rotation player. A. Traore was a talented player at LB and left for Louisville as a rotation player. With the lack of money I would think LB will hardly ever retain a top notch player.
4. We need a leader!! Sykes is a shooting guard and we need a vocal point guard type. Although no one is vocal Diaz probably suits that role best.
5. Talent level is so-so and really not good enough to compete for more than an 8th place or lower Big West finish.
6. The future does not look exceptionnaly bright. Acker has recruited two below average classes and because of little money in the program it will probably not get much better!
