So currently San Diego students currently pay $290 per semester, or $580 per year for athletics with a suggestion to raise it to over $400 per semester or over $800 per year.

Can a committee similar to what they have at San Diego St meet and come up with a suggested amount for help fun our athletics?

Even $200 per semester and $400 per year would greatly help fund our athletics. With over 42,000 students that would equal $1.7 million.

We should follow suit, and encourage the interim President to overhaul our Athletic Fees, which are currently a patchwork comprised of Beach Pride referendum and IRA (Instructionally Related Activities). This creates a cumbersome process and makes budgeting opaque. Some will object to the transparency because it obfuscates the total amount of fees being charged, but I think that the fees should be consolidated with an increase added.
