I do know that the maximum number of scholarships for baseball was raised dramatically with the house settlement from around 7 to 34. Since we only have 25 full ride scholarships for the entire athletics department, and it seems obvious that MBB, MVB, WVB and WBB are all getting some of those, it is clear we are no where near the max. But, what is less clear is what are other schools we are competing against offering.
If a player is getting an offer of a full ride and some NIL money, it seems unlikely they would accept a small partial scholarship. Since Jane's dictate was that winning was not important, only staying in budget was, I am guessing that we are not even competitive with other BW schools in what we are offering. I don't care how awesome TJ is, if this is the case, he is likely to struggle to recruit star players and is also likely to lose his best players every year.
Again, I am unclear on the actual situation and am only speculating. But, with both Acker and TJ and even in WBB, it is unreasonable if we are funding at a much lower level that the schools we compete against, to expect to be consistently better than them. If our funding is comparable, I would concur that these programs have been underperforming lately.
