JR, You are right but I am sure they will or form their own league with other UC schools that don't play football. They have better budget than Cal States do.

Where will they go Dave?

I expect all of the UC schools will leave the Big West because they get higher funds from the state and they have many rich donors and doctors and businessmen who donate. Even Riverside which was going to shut down athletics a few years ago is funding athletics more than we do. I do hope the new president will make changes once he takes office in May.

Yes, our programs are significantly under funding as compared to some of the other programs in the Big West. It's hard for both Acker, TJ Bruce and other coaches to compete with other programs that have more funding.

Acker had little to no funds to compensate a player in his first year. The fund (LB Anchor Fund) was a paltry 200k for this past season, his 2nd year. When I inquired if I should donate to the old NIL fund or the LB Anchor Fund, I was told that the Anchor Fund would be better as it is more controlled by the University. The staff who overseas donations told me the fund is now at around 300k for next year with hopes to rise to 1 million in a few months. Most men's basketball teams in the BW are funded from 800k to 1 million. Acker cannot recruit the kind of team we want with a 300k fund. It's the new reality in college sports.

I know the default position is fire every Coach the minute they lose, but I think that it is important to reflect on if they have been provided with the resources to compete. In other words, I have no idea what the landscape looks like in terms of scholarship and pay for players around the BW and at the top of College ball.
I do know that the maximum number of scholarships for baseball was raised dramatically with the house settlement from around 7 to 34. Since we only have 25 full ride scholarships for the entire athletics department, and it seems obvious that MBB, MVB, WVB and WBB are all getting some of those, it is clear we are no where near the max. But, what is less clear is what are other schools we are competing against offering.
If a player is getting an offer of a full ride and some NIL money, it seems unlikely they would accept a small partial scholarship. Since Jane's dictate was that winning was not important, only staying in budget was, I am guessing that we are not even competitive with other BW schools in what we are offering. I don't care how awesome TJ is, if this is the case, he is likely to struggle to recruit star players and is also likely to lose his best players every year.
Again, I am unclear on the actual situation and am only speculating. But, with both Acker and TJ and even in WBB, it is unreasonable if we are funding at a much lower level that the schools we compete against, to expect to be consistently better than them. If our funding is comparable, I would concur that these programs have been underperforming lately.
