I have been doing a little checking on our team that is left from last season and what we should expect as we move forward.
Minyon and Jeff are actively working on rebuilding the team for next season. From what I can tell, all of last years players but Rosie have departed. Some are just moving on their own, and a couple were recruited by other schools out of the portal. One apparently is moving to Alabama with Amy. So, it is going to be another year with and entire new team!
I was told that the two recruits that have been announced are still coming and are looking forward to being at Long Beach State.
Lots of coaching changes! Amy brought in Jeff Harada (former CS Fullerton head coach) before she decided to leave. Jeff has agreed to stay on the staff with Minyon. To me, this is great news as Jeff has both head coaching experience in the Big West and recruiting experience to a Big West school. Jeff is a local guy (lives in Orange County) and is motivated to stay within the Big West Conference. I met with him yesterday morning and was very impressed with his enthusiasm! I believe that he will be a great addition to our women's program. Coach Jesse Clark, and Coach Raru Archer departed shortly after the end of the season. When I was on campus yesterday, Coach Jashae Lee told me that she had give her notice and would be leaving shortly. Patricia Chung was also a coach last year and did a GREAT job in my opinion. I am not sure what her status might be. I have also heard that Minyon has hired a young assistant to join her as she takes over as the head coach at Long Beach State.
I am not sure where we stand with respect to a schedule of games for next season, but I think that Amy had pretty much taken care of that before she departed. I will try to gather more info about next years schedule the next time that I am on campus or talk to someone who might know something.
There was an "Welcome Reception" for Coach Moore on Thursday, which I could not attend because of other commitments. A couple of people that did attend told me that it was a nice function that gave people a chance to mingle with the new coach. I was also told that there was no real question and answer session with Coach Moore at the function.
So, we are off to a new start (again) as we enter next season. Coach Moore has a good reputation, and Coach Harada has Big West experience, so that is good news. Lots of new players will again give us lots of ??? marks as we move forward. I hope that next year will be the year that we start to see a positive turnaround in our Women's Basketball program. This summer will be important for the development of our team!
